my company is currently using webtrend traffic analysis programe to monitor web flow.

recently we suspect there are people manipulating the reports...(to put it bluntly, we think someone is trying to increase certain pages page hits by asking some others to constantly click on those pages.)

are there anything I can do to stop this? or to detect where the hits came from? Currently what the traffic report only shows how many hits, but there isn't a function telling us the breakdown of these hits.

really hope to stop the acts, could someone advise? thanks!

In theory, if you used a good tracking software, you could find out which IP address does a hit regularly (too often) and not count it anymore....

Install Webalizer or AWStats these allow you to see the page referrer and the ip address. Webalizer shows you Total Unique URLs and Total Unique Referrers. This should give you a good idea on how your site is doing.

You can create a custom report in WebTrends and just show the data related to a specific page or section. WebTrends is much more configurable than most people think. It is also not too hard for a programmer to import the log files and do some analysis that goes beyond almost all of the <$500 log analizers do.

WebTrends does provide all of the standard information that was mentioned above, but it can be turned on and off.

From this report, you can take a look at the traffic to that page, the addresses of the visitors and the time statistics.

You may have someone getting friends to hit a page, or you may be seeing the results of some automated systems running up the numbers.

It could be as simple a thing as creating a page with a meta refresh that will also hit the target page over and over.

Thanks,
