Hey, I'm using a HP computer with windows XP pro.
When I try to right click on any picture from the web and save
the picture, I get only two options for saving the files format.
*.BMP;*.ART
There is no "all files" option or "*.gif" option either.
So when I try to save a gif file, It gets corrupted and
it can no longer be run by any program including IE.
So how do I add an extra option to this "save picture as..."
menu?

What browser are you using? If MSIE, why not try Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com/)? Alternatively, how about another (http://www.browsehappy.com).

Best Wishes,
David

I'm Using MSIE6.0(windows)

My computer in LOS ANGELES CA (I'm currently in SACRAMENTO CA)
is an HP windows 98 with MSIE4.0 and that computer
has no problems.....

I'll try downloading one of your browser links...

Nah, I don't want another browser conflict on this computer.

I'll try copying the file from my TEMP internet files folder
and into some other one....
If anyone knows how to correct the problem via "internet options"
or something similar, please tell!

OK, I found the containing folder on my windows xp pro.

C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Man, that is rough, on windows 98 and 95 it used to be only:
C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
or
C:\Temporary Internet Files

I forget which one.

Well, when I executed the .gif file in my "Temporary Internet Files"
folder by double clicking it, it showed up perfect in IE6.
But when I copied it from the "Temporary Internet Files" folder
into "My Documents" then double clicked it, it showed up in IE6
as a red-X.

Any ideas?

Install firefox. It won't cause any conflicts. both browsers will function perfectly fine, but I imagine you'll switch to firefox after a few days anyways.

It's not a browser issue, then why does IE show the gif in an IE
window when I execute the file from my Temp folder?

Somehow, when I copy the file from the temp folder and paste it
elsewhere, the actual file gets corrupted....
My file extension for .gif must be corrupted or something....

The file must be changing by itself, when copied, and passively
corrupting itself.
Because .gif wasn't an avalible option on this computer from
the "save as..." menu when I tried saving it from the webpage.

Can anyone play with my actual image on the net?

(This Image gets corrupted each time I try to save it to my computer)
(BTW:This Image was created on my computer Win 95 paint)

(This Image some how never gets corrupted when I download it)
(BTW:This Image was created by the orginal JS Falcon creater)

Its your browser. I downloaded the file perfectly fine in firefox. I was able to edit it and save changes all on my desktop.

Can I get a link for an early NS download?
What was the first netscape version again, 2.0 or 3.0?
I forgot.

Does MS Paint actually save *.gif or just raw *.bmp

If you want a lite Gecko Browser for a weak Windows 95 machine: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

Have you tried using the mouse right-click and 'Save Picture As…'

Well thanks guys for trying... I fixed the problem.
You guys were right, it was a browser issue.
There is a bug in MSIE6.0 and I worked around it.
If anyone else was having the same problem, here's how I fixed it:
Internet Explorer does not save graphics files in the proper format (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q260650)
I followed their workaround:
(I had to use both)

**************************************************
Method 1
Delete the temporary Internet files.
To do so, Right Click on your shortcut to Internet Explorer and
choose Properties to bring up the INTERNET OPTIONS.
Then on the General tab click the Delete Files... button.
**************************************************
Method 2
Bring up the INTERNET OPTIONS and then click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security Section.
Find the CheckBox with the Label: Do not save encrypted pages to disk

Click to clear the checkbox (so there is no longer a check).
Then simply press OK on the bottom
**************************************************

After I did both methods, I opened a new IE window and tried
to save a GIF image, and the format GIF was available (before it wasn't)!
