We are looking for the scripts and some instruction in how to use them for our website. The scripts we are looking for in particular are the one that allows you to have an A|B|C| ... row across the top of your page for people to pick the letter they wish to look under, then opens to the page containing their selection, we have searched under every word we can think of and have not been able to find this script. On the page that opens we would like to have people click on the list of names and a pop-up window containing the definition and other information be displayed for that particular name. Any assistance would be appreciated as Gaea has been pulling my hair out, Sincerely, Cat

This takes more than a script, you'll probably want to generate each page from a database.

Sounds like that would be an interesting learning experience. Where do we go to start? The database is a MYSQL database, which we already got lost in once, but think a few simple questions would get us through. It seems that one of our major difficulties is the "language" barrier of not knowing exactly what everyone else is calling what we are thinking. So we are total newbies, to this arena but we are hungry to learn if that helps. Thanks

Tell Me More About what you want to do?
What does each letter say or do?
Will it give another list of sub list?
Does it look like a web site that you have seen?
Where http://????.com
What are you tring to do or say to the people that visit your web site?
Will you be building the web site yourself or have someone help you?
There are a number of ways to do this?

Let Me Know.
So that you can get the right answers to the right questions

We have done a lot of "hard way" work on the site since the last post. But we have come up with the basic layout of where we want to go. If you go to the site ( http://gnchome.net ) and then visit the glossary page you can see what we are aiming for. There are also some examples on the herb page, just not as many right now.
What we are wanting to do is be able to link from the glossary to herbs where specific terms are used on the list of herbs and vice versa. Have we got this started, yes, is there an easier way, probably.
Right now what we have is an individual page for each word in the glossary and an individual page for each herb. In the case of the glassry, you click on the word, it pops open a new window with the definition, eventually you will be able to then go to where words are used.
We have chosen to use larger fonts and pastel background colors to make it somewhat easier on the eye as our intention is for people to come and read for a while. However we do not know what these pages look like on other computers with that run less than our own (1152X864), input would be appreciated.
Hope that helps you get us going the right way

Build An Easer Website. This is going to be a bit long and I hope this will help you.

Always Remember the word KISS (stands for Keep It Simple Stupid ) I teach people to use Netscape composer 4.6 and then use some type of notepad to clean up some miner errors in the code that is left behind from Netscape or any other programs (specially don’t use Front Page there the worst program). I'm from the old school when we only had something like notepad to build a web page. The problems is when you use the programs to build your web page they leave extra code that they leave behind and the browsers take more time to work on and slow down the viewing of your page.

Tell me what you want to do with your web site in 40 words or less! What type of service are you offering to your visitors? Is this web site going to be for helping people or is it just a hobby web site? Are you going to sell items on your web site? Is your web site for information only? Are you going to have forums on your web site? Chats rooms, bulk email system, and/or help system? This is to determine what type of hosting and web design you need.

First you need to uniformly make the pages. Make a Template for all your pages. Are you going to put all your information on a CD? That makes a difference on how you design the web site, to have both look and work the same, so you don’t have do double the work.

Use only one background type, Use drop down menus for different pages (Using less page space easer to navigate) to move to another page or to open a new page. No frames, No flash, no rollover links and stick to the point don’t ramble on. When adding pictures make sure to optimize to the least amount of color and size to load up faster on you web page.

Don’t use colors like Red or Yellow, Red is for danger and Yellow is for possible Danger or Warnings. Use smaller letters, bigger make you look like you scramming at your visitors!

Don’t put your email address on you web pages, you are asking to be spammed by any body and every body! Make everybody go to a form page to send an email and only after you decide that that person is not a spammer then give you’re email to that person.

® This is for registered Trademark © This is for copyrights and you must have a page explaining your copyrights some ware on your website and dates.

Always test your web site at dialup 56k and on different browsers the page should load up at no more than 30 seconds if possible.

Let me know if this helps? Also if you need more help let me know where to contact you.

Tried the netscape one, can't remember but we ran into some sort of problem with it, so we went with this coffeecup program, so far it has done what we have asked of it, but we do have to go in and clean the code a bit.

"Tell me what you want to do with your web site in 40 words or less!

The site is being designed on the concept of a community sharing information and insights of herbal healing. The pages are designed to be largely educational with support for the site to be generated by affiliate programs, particularly herbal sales. 40 words exactly! Helping, yes; hobby, at this point yes; sales, above; Information only, in basic yes (sales are done off site); forums, bulletin board planned (education needed); chats, no; bulk email, clueless; help system, education, information, bulletin board.

"First you need to uniformly make the pages. Make a Template for all your pages." All pages under a category look the same, for the moment we are using the color code system for ourselves, it is also part of an ongoing debate as to which colors we actually want to go with.
"Are you going to put all your information on a CD?" Not even a consideration at the moment.
"Use only one background type," Above "Use drop down menus for different pages (Using less page space easer to navigate) to move to another page or to open a new page." Don't where these would apply, or look right most of our stuff is pick the word you need help with in the statement and click. Define better if we misunderstood. "No frames, No flash, no rollover links" ? "and stick to the point don’t ramble on." Sorry, will do another edit a.s.a.p. "When adding pictures make sure to optimize to the least amount of color and size to load up faster on you web page." Way down the road but thanks for the tip.

"Don’t use colors like Red or Yellow, Red is for danger and Yellow is for possible Danger or Warnings." Will tone down the rose on the opening page, and go back into battle with her about losing the yellow, but I lost the first time around. "Use smaller letters, bigger make you look like you scramming at your visitors!" A little feedback to the pros, I like to kick back, put my feet up and actually still be able to read instead of having to sit up hunched over my screen trying to not only absorb information, but squint and guess what the .... the word is. This is largely an information site where we want people to come and read for long periods of time, too small of a font will not be condusive to this.

"Don’t put your email address on you web pages, you are asking to be spammed by any body and every body! Make everybody go to a form page to send an email and only after you decide that that person is not a spammer then give you’re email to that person." Need how-to's

"® This is for registered Trademark © This is for copyrights and you must have a page explaining your copyrights some ware on your website and dates." OK, now somewhat edukated, more detail of what needs to be included, please.

"Always test your web site at dialup 56k and on different browsers the page should load up at no more than 30 seconds if possible." Can not do this do to restrictions by my isp, which is why we are asking so much for feedback.

Thank you for your help
