There is a website address that I really want.

Let’s pretend it’s great-name.com

According to whois.sc the website is currently at REGISTRAR-HOLD as of yesterday.

I’ve backordered the domain name using GoDaddy, the website I go through to buy my domain names.

Last year there was a website that I really wanted that I backordered using GoDaddy’s service but I didn’t get it.

I’m wondering, is GoDaddy’s backorder tool good? Is there something I should do in addition to this?

I was looking at doing another backorder service, but I read something about if a name is backordered by multiple people then it goes into a bidding process. So I don’t want to bid against myself and jackup the price, but then again, I didn’t remember a bidding process for the domain name I lost last year.

I’m confused. Please help.

And what exactly does REGISTRAR-HOLD mean? The domain name should have expired the middle of last year.

When changing providers the domain name has to be released and then re-registered. In this period the domain name is put on hold.
There may also be a period of grace (registrar-hold) after a name is released, giving the previous owner time to reconsider, before being available to all.
