Please let me know what you think. It's a site to display my metal work and jewelry. I've designed it to take advantage of newer browsers (Firefox, IE 5+, etc), but also to downgrade nicely for users without certain capabilities. It should be valid xhtml trans. The css doesn't validate for the sole reason of having it work in multiple browsers.

I widened the iframe and changed the gallery links.

Why the iframe?
All your CSS errors are something to do octapacy but I don't actualy see any of it in the design.
I wanted the content to load inside that area of the "frame" of the saw. I chose an iframe instead of a div so I could load different content in it without refreshing the whole site and also so scroll wheels on mice would work properly.
What browser are you using?
your Iframe needs to be bigger. and get rid of the "there's more" text, it doesn't even emplore correct grammar.

I think the design/look of the site is very good. But I have to agree with the others about the iframe. Not the use of it, that's fine, but it needs to be bigger and without a scroll. It just looks kind of cramped. . .

Plus, it definitely needs a way for people to buy your work! even if its just a paypal cart.

just my 2 cents, may not even be worth that!;)

I can't make the iframe bigger because that would require making the saw frame image bigger, and I already have a little scrolling in 800x600.

I don't understand what's wrong with the grammar in my scroll-reminder image.

It's required if I have scrolling because I showed the site to a couple of people before I had it, and they both didn't at first realize that they could scroll down.

Hey Slim,
I just wanted to say that I was looking at your site again and think that your jewely is fantastic. Real talent there!

I see that you probably only work by commision so I guess the shopping cart comment may not apply. . .

What do you think of the "There's more!" bubble?

I'm not seeing it. Checked on 3 browsers-- Mac FF 1.0, Safari, and PC IE6.0.

In general I have had no real success with opacity in all of the different forms i.e. alpha value, filter, opacity value. . .

Its just something that doesn't seem to add much to a design and is a lot of headache to make work.

I'd just use ghosted images if the look is essential.

But that's just me.

Have you got javascript disabled?

I have two IE6 machines here to test it on and it works for me. I'm running Firefox 1.0 in Linux right now, and it also works there.

Also, you've got to click on a gallery like the pendants one so there is a need for scrolling.

Hi, slimslam1 -
I agree with the previously posted comments about the scrolling with the IFrame, as well as those praising your efforts.
You might check your layout with different screen resolutions. Mine is set at 800x600, and about 75px of your page doesn't appear without scrolling to the right. Also, the IFRAME, with this res. setting, is quite tiny. That, combined with the white text on black makes reading of your content a bit uncomfortable.

Good Luck -

Well guys, I broke down and changed the proportions of my saw. Here's a possible updated layout:

http://worksinmetal.com/design-small-feb23-9.11pm.png

The iframe would be substantially wider, then. I'm not sure if I'll actually make the nav like that or not. The nav links would behave as follows:
default = colored picture, gray text
onmouseover = colored picture, yellow text
onmousedown = yellow tinted picture, yellow text
onmouseup = default

Update: I updated the navigation and resized the iframe! Please check it out and let me know what you think.

I'm not being picky, but the new layout means I have to scroll in order to see your 4 link.

Other than that the Iframe looks better(although I still think they shouldn't be used...)

How about changing the top banner design, omitting the repetition of your name in blue, and putting the links formerly on the (controversial) right across the top?

I agree with scragar, I have to scroll, too.
Screen - 800x600 res.

Good Luck, and keep plugging along! -

The links should now be visible for you... I squeezed the left side down and got rid of any spare black space.

That's an idea, KDLA, but I'm going to leave the links where they are.
