Is it the server or my connection. I am getting a Dell 1600SC and am going to run it on DSL. How much badwith will i get per month. Also what OS should i get. Any other tips

Lets look at the difference between bandwidth and traffic.
Bandwidth is the size of the line connected to your server, for example;
128 KB
512 KB
1 MB
2 MB
This determins the speed of connectivity to your server.
Traffic is the amount of data you server dishes out over a given period of time.
Therefore, a typical advertisment for a hosting company would be, so many MB of disk space and 1GB transfer per month. So if the amount of traffic exceeds 1 GB in a month you have to pay extra (usually per MB)
So going back to your Dell 1600SC, what size of DSL are you getting? and if it's your own, then you have unlimited traffic.
Whith regard to the OS have a look at this thread

Thanks I'm getting DSL with 256 KBS upload and it is my own so thats tight that i'll have unlimited bandwith. Thanks
For the info.

Yes, you'll have unlimited transfer but your bandwidth is restricted to 256KB

And how much Bandwidth per month is use by a site that will have aproximately 3,000 to 6,000 visits per month.

The average web page is about 25KB in size, it you have 3000 different visits to that page in a month that would be.
3000 x 25 = 75000 KB (75 MB) transfer in that month
If you have other pages being viewed or downloads on your site that would have to be factored in.
Now you need to work out what size of a pipe or bandwidth you would need to handle that volume of transfer comfortably. Any pipe 256 upwards should handle that with out any problems, however, I would suggest a min of 512 or 1MB.
This is a broad outline, there are other factors to consider, the spec of the machine, the software it running etc. Depending on the type of site is another factor, some sites selling concert tickets for example experience huge volumes of traffic in a one or two day period and then just a trickle for the rest of the month. In this case you would need a high spec machine with high bandwidth, whereas with steady traffic spread out over the month you’ll get away with less.

not much or a ton, depends on if you have a lot of pictures, flash movies, ect.
That depends on how you mean by "visits." Do you mean 3,000 to 6,000 page views? Also, it's going to depend on the type of site, and what kind of files you are transferring. If it helps at all, on my http://www.infinitypages.com site, every 5000 page views runs me roughly 100 MB of bandwidth...

The site will be a virtual magazine, will have aproximately 18-20 differente pages. These pages, will consist of tables of results, some race reports, some small low resolution photos, interviews, banners, etc. NO videos. The biggest page is approx 40k. What I mean with "visit" is person that goes to the site monthly, each one viewing aprox 15 of the 20 pages. Now, I believe that I have been more specific, how much bandwidth will need aprox.? (Give me the higher limit)
Also can some one explain what other thing should I look for in the Hosting plan (service) that could increase the monthly bill of the site. I ask this because one of the hosting company that I'm considering charge US$2.oo for every 1GB of "Bandwidth per month" extra use by the site.
The "visit" could increase by 50% in a 8 month period.
Thank to all the respond so far.

OK, let’s do the maths,
Each page 40K x 20 pages = 6000 visitors per month = 4.8 GB
(it will go nowhere near that because, will everybody look at every page?, secondly, IE will cache the likes of your header/footer and navigation so that won’t be counted as transfer after the first page is viewed.)
So I’d say 5 GB of transfer a month should be enough.
I would also suggest using a host that has a control panel that allows you to view bandwidth as your using it.
