Hi all

we were discussing lie detecters being built into TVs in the political fun thread, and to prevent that thread going off on a tangant I will post a new thread.

There is an invention that is built into phones (http://www.mg.co.za/articlePage.aspx?articleid=80211&area=/insight/insight_online/) that can pick out stress levels in the persons voice and I thought it would put dishonest politicans out of a job, which would be good. It would not work too well with really good liars because they are natrals at it, but it is very good at picking up what humans can not.

It works most of the time though, but can sometimes make mistakes eg for when they are emotianal or something.

do you think that Lie detectors should be built into TVs?

Someone could be stressed if their friend is dying in the seat next to them. Want to hang them up too? ;)

Like I said before, I think most politicians actually believe their lies. The detector can't detect falsehoods, only purposeful falsehoods, so it wouldn't really do much good. And, like theuedimaster said, it would probably be just as likely to have a false positive.

Also smercer, wouldn't somebody as big on conspiracy theories as you end up thinking the system was being faked somehow by a politician you didn't like if they were actually passing?

p.s. Post more jokes!

EDIT: Thanks!
