I am the designer for a site that has just started using the PayPal shopping cart feature. I have a pretty good knowledge of HTML, but no CGI, PHP, SSL, etc., so PayPal offered us the ability to accept online payments easily, and we have been very happy with how it has worked so far.
Now we are wanting to branch out a little and I wanted to see if anyone can tell me if the following scenario is possible using the PayPal Shopping Cart.
We have several PDF documents we would like to be able to sell online. The idea is that a customrer would make a payment using the PayPal shopping cart system, and then be given access to this PDF document by a redirect. I've been able to do this using the "Buy Now" buttons, and then entering the location of the PDF file in the redirect URL field. This works fine and is easy to set up.
My problem is trying to protect the return URL so that a customer can not freely give the file location away, and permit other potential customers from accessing the file without paying. Is there any way to prevent this? Or am I getting too complicated for something like PayPal.
Is there a way to make sure the return URL can only be opened from someone who is being redirected from the PayPal site?? I've tried thinking of several different solutions, but keep coming up with a blank on how to do this simply. Can ANYONE please help point me in the right direction?
