I seek a RELIABLE web host that's better than Verio. As fairly recent management changes at Verio have caused noticeable declines in some of Verio's services, and they don't particularly care, I don't want to remain with them. But my (100% legal and nonpornographic) site serves up a million pageviews per month and handles nearly 13 thousand unique visitors per day. So I can't switch hosting service providers without thinking things through.
I liked how Verio could be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (in case the site was down, for example). They're not as good now in that sense but I also liked Verio's rather extensive Urchin traffic analysis software (which it still offers, after finally getting it to work reliably about a year and a half ago). Additionally I like how for $99 monthly, there's no longer a limitation on bandwidth. But sites hosted with Verio aren't as fast now. Meanwhile, they don't get back to us on technical support issues beyond an initial (often unhelpful) reply. Verio's attitude is: "fine: sue us out in Colorado. And if you do, the most you can get is your money back, and we're not responsible for consequential damages and the like either. Didn't you read the contract you signed online?"
So I want to move on but maybe they're the biggest host in the world for a reason, what with their couple hundred thousand clients. Maybe they're the best for the $100 dollar a month range? I can't risk going with a hosting company that is going to let me down by making my site slow to download, even intermittently. I'd also like to avoid having to deal with rude folks. Something in the Maryland / Washington D.C. / Virginia area might be good too, as I spend time there and sometimes knowing folks gets one farther even with companies that might be self-serving. Any thoughts?
If you recommend a service with which you're an affiliate, that's fine although I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd please disclose that fact just so I'll know to take it with something of a grain of salt. It could be that you're an affiliate because you like their service though, so I have no problem with your recommendation; I'd simply appreciate the disclosure too please. Thanks.
