My question is
does any one know what cipher strenth is? found under help\aboutie.
all pcs ive used have 128 bit but longhorn below has 256 bit
what difference would this make (if any)to security
what exactly is cipher strenth?

Cipher strength is the number of bits in the key used to encrypt and decrypt data being transferred to secure servers. IE 6 only supports up to 128-bit encryption, but other browsers (such as Firefox) already support 256-bit. For any given site, the cipher strength available is limited by the facilities provided by that site.
Using longer keys makes brute-force cracking take much longer, but at the moment 128-bit is generally regarded as sufficient. There are much greater security risks in IE than the possibility of a key being brute-force cracked.

In lay-man's terms, 128 is acceptable, but 256 is safer. ;)
I think with 128 bit ciphers, the odds of cracking the connection are about 14 and a half trillion to one. Something like that if I remember rightly (might be billion actually thinking about it now). Meh, bottom line: It's an improvement.
ok i get it
thank god ie7 is more about bieng immune to trogens than that
who cares about that when your odds of getting a trogen are....high

you said you are using winfs? IIRC NTFS what is currently being used for longhorn and that winfs is not even going to be released with longhorn anymore. The reason why is because the current msde/mssql design isn't working for them.
your post dycrypted by me
you said you are using winfs? IIRC NTFS what is currently being used for "THE XP WITH A NEW SKIN BUILDS THEY GAVE OUT"and that winfs is not even going to be released with longhorn anymore"FROM WHAT IVE READ (BASED ON A 3 YEAR OLD XP WITH A NEW SKIN BUILD)". such a common mistake
1 Dont believe ANYTHING you read on longhorn as its all based on 3 year old hacked down xp with a new skin builds
ie "Public Builds"
Except for my 42xx info which is aprox 1 year old
2 it uses fs i can get u a shot of the boot driver for fs on the cd if you still wont believe me
3 itll be comen for xp too

you are talking about a "xp with a new skin bild" like 4074.public Please put spaces between your words and use the quote tag. Microsoft announced publically that they are not going to use winfs when they release longhorn. Winfs has been delayed. That is what I have read in the news. I have not read any 'reviews based on 3 year old data'. Basically winfs is a file system built on mssql/msde and the last version was released in 2000 (mssql server 2000). The db technology seems to be what is causing everything to lag behind.

I read yesterday that winfs may be back ported to XP. How's THAT for a change in direction equal to the release of IE7? :)

What exactly is the deal with all this file system business anyway? MS don't care whether it's compatible with other OS's right? (Can't imagine many people would be bothered actually.) So why all the fuss about which to use?

It's basically MS doing something that Oracle proved was a bad idea over five years ago. That is, make a relational database manager look like a file system. Ridiculous way to squander more CPU cycles IMHO.

Basically the file system is going to be built into a db. All of the data on your pc will be stored in mssql server tables in a nut shell. I think it will actually run very fast, but the scary thing that I see is: If one table is corrupted you will loose a lot of data. That is why winfs is being put off, it is not stable yet, and it would be running on a sql server 2000 frame, they are going to try to bring out a newer version of sql server and put winfs on top of it it looks like.
