I am currently running windows 2000 and have a windows 98 cd if that helps at all... can anyone please tell me how to reformat?

put in the windows 2000 cd and just reinstall windows 2000. It will promt you to reformat during the install process.
You can also put in a dos disk (you can use the windows 2000 or 98 repair consoles too) and type format c: and that'l format the drive too.
This will all be an ntfs or fat32 format.
