of course we all like FireFox but within reason what features would you like to see added to it

1) Make the tab browsing orderable, so you can move tabs and keep them ordered rather than just ordered in the order the were opened in (i dont think i could use 'order*' anymore in that sentance)

2) Built in user agent switcher (although Chris Pederick does offer a good extension for that), but its annoying when you come accross a site thats displays a message this site is only for IE and NN users, why? why? what possesses you to make such a poorly made site that only users with sub standard browser can view, you imcompitance and narrowminded design sense, will have to change drastically as looking at the ratings FireFox is slowly but surely killing IE, and i for sure cant wait for IE 7.0 which is supposed to be soooooooooooo good according to Mircosoft, just so that i can laugh at their feable attempt to realease a counter attack on FireFox, if i were a betting man i would place alot of money on it that it will be just as crap with a few more 'handy' features over IE 6.0, anyway rant over

What other features would you like?, if this thread becomes pretty decent sized, i will submit it to my contact on the FireFox developers team

how about making pop-ups default to all open in tabs instead of windows? I know I get anoyed when I get 5 popups on a site, and consiquently XP groups Firefox at the bottom of the screen...

that and a quick validation link(that could go in a menu somewhere) and alow you to quicky send it's URL through the W3 validator (http://validator.w3.org), it would make reveiwing pages easier.

Tab dragging (https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&category=Tabbed%20Browsing&id=176)

User agent switching (http://gemal.dk/mozilla/launchy.html?ver=3.5.0)

pop-ups: switch them off in FF options.

quick validation (http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/), similar toolbar for IE (http://www.nils.org.au/ais/)

Check available extensions first!

Most of the time Firefox/Mozilla are detected as Netscape, so your only problem is when a site is IE-only. That is, if I'm thinking correctly, anyway (which may not be the case, knowing me :p).

Yes, tab moving and a zoom button so you can tell by what percentage it zooms.

Jona get user agent switcher (https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&category=Developer%20Tools&id=59) and pretend to be IE :D

No, no, Fang, you don't understand: I already have it. ;)

I'd like to see FF support the same filter capablitites that IE 6 does.

example:
filter:shadow(color=#000066,direction=-115);

They have a good reason why not to. What they lack is a good reason to. IE added some good things, some cool things, and some not-so-good cool things. The shadow filter always comes out fake-looking. Personally I prefer alpha transparency in PNGs, but... IE doesn't support those (yet they have a good reason to). ;)

I prefer using that than using graphics especially when it comes to a header. Of course I haven't worked with alpha transparency.

Just pointing out that FF has been seeing it's first handful of pop ups. If you go to the same site with IE, no pop ups. This basically means that sometimes people design pop ups for IE, sometimes for FF.

that means features added to FireFox and not extensions to install, does it not?

The primary reasons for extensions to exist is so that people can choose what options they want with Firefox. Firefox is a "stripped-down, almost featureless version of Mozilla." You can add more functionality to it by installing extensions. This way, Firefox is a fast, small download and it runs well as a standalone browser. The reason Mozilla never had such huge success was because you got lost in all the overwhelming number of features. Firefox is simpler, easier to use, and if you want anything that Firefox doesn't have, you can probably install an extension for it (or program it yourself).

so why install developer tools by default?

Create them yourself? Naturally

I'm confused. You said "Why install developer tools by default?" Firefox doesn't do that. So I asked if you meant "Why not install developer tools by default?" Maybe that's not what you meant, or maybe Firefox does come with developer tools installed and I just don't remember what it came with...

The only one it comes with AND you have to do a custom install to add it is the Javascript console.

if you do an install it install s developers tools (im pretty sure of it), if you do a custom install, developers tools is checked and blanked out, the only option of install components is 'Quality Feedback Agent'
