I could really use help on this one. I'm not sure what I will need to do to make this work so i put it under general.

What i want to do: I own a website that has members that write game articles for it and then post them on the forum or email them to me and i put them on the site in the correct category. I am curious if there is a way i can password protect a directory on the site's server and have a form that my members can paste their article that they wrote and pick the correct category for it and it will right away be displayed on the site for all to see. just like a forum is. The main point of this is to take me out of it of them having to send me the article. This would make it easier for them and me because I would not have to constantly add all the articles. Please give a detailed explanation on how to go about doing this. Thank you. :D

Replace what you've got with a simple CMS like Grey Matter and make your contributers content editors.

What your looking for is called CMS or Content Management System.

There are a number of FREE/Open Source Options to use.

PostNuke
PHPNuke
Mambo

Those are the most popular and have a great user base that helps drive development and add-ons.

It really is the way to go for most sites like yours.

okay so what do i do with those. I search google for PHPNuke and then download it to my pc, create a passworded directory on my server, upload PHPNuke to the directory, run it on the site, and then my team can select an output location. i need like a step by step how to since i've never done this before. Thanks so far for your help.

First make sure your server supports php. Do not make the directory password protected, that is not neccessary. Php is going to have it's own login system. Just copy the files and make sure you have the db properly setup (I am not sure if phpnuke uses mysql or what, some cms might use mysql, some mssql, some xml, some flat files, access, whatever).

okay i have put it on my server. Now when i navigate to the directory it says this:

"There seems to be a problem with the MySQL server, sorry for the inconvenience.

We should be back shortly."

I'm curious. Is this an error I made or something that is going wrong with my hoster?

Is the MySQL server running? Just because it's installed doesn't mean it's running.

Is your configuration information for the MySQL server correct? When you edited the configuration that's neccessary for the MySQL connection, did you make sure to put the right information in there?
