Trying to set up a web server at home for training/portfolio, keep getting a STOP: c00026c error, tells me fdc.sys (floppy disk controller driver) can't be loaded. Definitely getting training, but not sure what to do next. Any suggestions/resources?

hi,
can you tell us a bit more about what it is you are doing when you get the error message?

The error message comes up during install, after all four boot disks have been processed and the initial set of files has been copied off the install CD, right when windows is starting for the first time. I've gotten similar messages throughout the install process on this machine, have attempted to strip all unnecessary equipment from it to rule out all causes. The errors appear to be a bit arbitrary, unfortunately. My next attempt is to see if a disk with the complete install of the OS will work once plugged into this machine.

hi jalt-man,
ok just a few more questions for you.
Is the error occuring during the install of the Operating System in this case Windows 2000 advanced server?
How come you have to installed from 4 boot disks?
Windows 2000 advanced server comes on a bootable CD-rom.
If i understand you correctly you get the error when you are installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server and its not anything to do with IIS.
According to the error message you get the problem is with the floppy drive, saying that you also mentioned that it has already installed files from the 4 boot disks you have used.
My advice would be to try a fresh install again but this time boot from the bootable CD-rom and disconnect the floppy drive as it is not required for any process during your install.
Hope this helps.

No dice, unfortunately. Now I'm getting INNACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE, although it appears to be copying files off the CD-ROM fine until the error hits. A quick format just to be sure all's clean, then will try it again. Does Windows 2000 Advanced Server just not run on some computers?
By the way, many thanks for the continued advice.

hi,
in regard to your question about will it run on any PC. The answer to this is no, only PC with at least the minimum specifications. You will need to checkout microsoft for minimum specs.
Your getting an INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE error, did you make sure you disabled the floppy disk drive in the BIOS as well as diconnecting it?
As i mention in previous posts you don't need a floppy disk drive. Most motherboard's default settings in the BIOS is to boot from floppy as first boot device. If either the floppy is not working correctly or it is not there then you will get an error on the boot device. Change the settings in the BIOS to boot from primary CD-Rom first then set the second boot device to Primary hard drive then try a fresh install again.

here's what i have at this point:
disconnected floppy, reconfigured bios, booted up using cd-rom. copied initial set of files all right, then formatted drive. started copying over main files, then gave me a page fault error.
as far as i know the computer should be ok running this OS: the older ones i have can, and this one is supposedly faster/better.
trying install again with clean format...
