Wow, you're right it does need a lot of work.
Well for starters, less with the big text, it just looks amature. Then you will probably want to layout your page somewhat, strait down is rarely advisable.
Your page doesn't seem to have a title to it, it just rushes strait into content.
I suppose remote mailing lists are o.k. when your using a host that doesn't support any server scripting although you could make it your own a bit more. That webring is definately not a good idea, if you want promotion then use a service specificaly for your type of site (BCX (http://buzzcomix.net/) are massive).
As well as validation issues (http://validator.w3.org) I think you ought to be putting at least as much thought into your design as you would put into a comic strip.

Make some sense of your site. Learn <div>'s and put it into an actual site.
