The top level headers don't seem to go with the design, but I'm not sure what to sugest. I'm very glad to hear that your background is temporary.

Not important: your table headers are marked up as normal table data.

I think that would look rather tacky, I'd say keep the background nice and subtle.

I'd say the Tree's right (with what he's said so far). A simple, sublte background would be good. I like the menu - easy to click, easy to read, and it has sort of a "highlighted tab" look to it when you hover over it. It's pretty simple. I would change links/headers to a darker orange, and make them a slightly lighter orange on hover, but other than that I don't think I would change anything.
