Personally, I dislike them both, but don't know of one that I do like. But I'll say that those are definately one of the top two message board systems, and the top two for PHP.

ive been using this handy little tool for about, o i dont know 5 years plus now, its called GOOGLE, you should try it, its pretty good, finds what you want (most of the time) has lots of other stuff on there too

Don't forget http://www.punbb.org. It's a free forum that requires PHP/MySQL but the beauty is it produces lightweight XHTML and CSS.

doesnt really fit the bill, when the request was asked for an ASP forum however i presume you only read the first post that wasnt very clear and only mentioned later on, so i'll let you off (just this once) :p
