I have to give my English Honors class a speech on any occupation i choose. I have chosen to do my speach on being a webmaster mixed in with web developer. I need at least five different sources for it so one of them I hope to use will be this interview. It would be awesome of you if you are a webdeveloper or webmaster to reply your answers to these questions. Thank you very much. Answer all you feel comfortable answering. I need serious replys please.
How many hours do you work a week?
Do you get vacation days?
Are there promotions?
What should one know? (html, SSL's, etc)
What kind of classes to take?
Better to work for company or start on own
Advantages from company and own
What salary range would a starting webmaster make?
What do you like about it?
What don't you like about it?
Is the amount of webmasters growing?
What schooling is needed?

q:How many hours do you work a week?
a:depends, freelance or for a company
q:Do you get vacation days?
a: depends, freelance or for a company
q:Are there promotions?
a: again, that depends on the emplyer
q:What should one know? (html, SSL's, etc)
a: everyone should know html and css, the developer should know a server side language, the designer should be good with graphics. The developer should also know about how to setup and run the server
q:What kind of classes to take?
a: a compsci degree would not hurt but you can get buy without a college diploma in this feild. There are web dev cources at vocational, community, and state colleges too though.
q:Better to work for company or start on own
a: well I have done freelancing and tried to work at a company, but never got the job there (will reapply soon now that they have an opening). You can learn at your own pace when you freelance so it would probably be easiest to mess around with it on your own as a freelancer and then work for a company.
q:Advantages from company and own
a: company offers security, on your own you might not be able to find work
Freelancing gives you more freedom though.
q:What do you like about it?
a: I am just a nerd and I like to code, but being on the internet means that people are actually looking and useing what I have made, it just feels more live and real to me.
q:What don't you like about it?
a: It is a packed industry.
q:Is the amount of webmasters growing?
a: yes
q:What schooling is needed?
a: none needed, but schooling would of course be nice. Big companies like to hire dudes with compsci degrees to be their code monkeys.

Just one more quick thing that I forgot to ask is a name that I can call you for my bibliography. It doesn't have to be your real name if you don't want it to be you can just make somthing up. Again thank you.
