I'm making the switch from using Fireworks 4 to Photshop 7 and I'm having some problems I'm hoping you might be able to help with.
First of all (these all sound really stupid, by the way) I can't figure out how to insert graphics into a file. I've browsed through the help files and could find nothing of help.
Next, I was wondering if there was any special way to specify the size of graphics. I would like to make a square black box 468 x 60 pixels where a banner will go on the final site, but I'm not sure how to specify the size of a shape.
Basically the only other problem I'm having is that some Filters will work and sometimes they won't. I can sort that out later. Thanks for your help.

I'm still using 5.5 but it can't be that different.

...how to insert graphics into a file
Do you mean 'save as'? Surely not! Or maybe 'export as'?

Size a graphic!
Open :: New and enter the size. Is that what you mean?

if you are meaning a html file, it is <img src="URL">
if you are meaning you want to copy an image into a new one, get the box tool (dont remember name) and drag it around it and copy it, then paste it onto a new picture.

about the black box, open up a new 468 by 60 px shape (or even a 1 x 1 px will even work). get the paintbucket and floodfill the background black.

if you make it any smaller then 468 x 60, you should try this:

<img src="URL" height="468" width="60">

about the filters, you should change the color mode to RGB, since many wont work on indexed color mode or grayscale. if thats not the problem, post the file here and ill try and see why

what i mean about the inserting graphics is like i'm working with a photoshop file and i want to insert a picture of lets say a car into that file so i can work with it as a part of that file. how do i do that. in fireworks, it was Insert > Image. know what i mean?
its the same way with the banner shaped thing. i want to work with it as a part of the one file. that make any sense?

I guess this is what you want..
Open your first file, then also open your picture 'car' file

Select what you want from the 'car' image, copy and paste it into your first file. The paste will be placed on a seperate layer. If you now want (not recomended) to combine the two layers then do a Layers::Merge.

Does that help.

You can also drag your selected elements from that file or the layers you want to your target file. If you want several layers together, link them first, then drag the top layer linked and all with follow over to the target file.

You can only use the filters in rgb mode
