Does anyone know of a site where you can get good forum software, or add a forum to an existing provider or or or.

I have an application (a bolt on to a site I am developing).

Cheers

Take you're pick, there's loads of forums out there. PHPBB (http://www.phpbb.com/), YABBforum (http://www.yabbforum.com/), Invision Forum (http://www.invisionboard.com/) and of course this forum, vBulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com/).

I've not had any experience with setting a forum up, but I'd have to say that the best two are PHPBB and vBulliten. However PHPBB is free so if you were to try that one you haven't got anything to lose if you don't like it.

I've had a YABB forum running for several years. It's simple but quite solid and doesn't require PHP or a database, just Perl.

If you don't already have a host, another thing to consider when choosing is whether or not the site will host for free or if at all. It's a whole lot easier to develop a forum if it's hosted by it's providers it takes away the variable of storage and hosting, as well as having them 'just around the corner' if the need for product specific technical support ever arrives. Just something to consider.
