Hello-
For my agency, I've designed an online library directory, located at http://kdla.ky.gov/directory.htm.

Could you please help me "deflate" the main directory page by looking at the coding and deciding what can be eliminated, or at least provide an alternative which can streamline the coding somewhat?

A few of things to know -
This must be ADA/508 compliant (it passes all three priorities now, a la Bobby).
The section in the white ("content" section) is all I can change; as a government agency, we must use our state's template.
The "Search the Directory" currently does not work, it's simply a placeholder; I've got to wait until the web crawl this weekend before that coding can be set up.
The javascript random word thing is a whim to irritate the prudish librarians here, and may not stay. Deleting it didn't help with lightening up the coding anyway.

Thanks in advance -

Holy crap, look at that all that code. I hope it's generated and not hand-typed. :0 You need the home page to be more of a simple entry page. I'd keep the map on the entry page. I guess you could make the drop down list titles into links and insert the drop down lists in a space to the right of it once you click on the link... do it all in javascript and incorporate the js file to save download space.

Do your libraries still use text-based card catalogs? Because then you won't be able to do what I suggested above.

after I got onto the catalog, I couldn't get back to the main page.

Pretty cool... and looks like it was a complicated project. Only, could you give it, as others would say, "some soul?" Seemed a little too spare. Amazing what just a little lipstick and rouge can do.

There was a VERY pretty website by an irish library in a recent thread. Look for it, it was beautiful.

Hey, when you get a chance review mine. My thread is called, "what have I done..."

1. Yes, this was all hand-coded.
2. I think you went into our card catalog (link in the blue bar) rather than the directory. Clicking on any of the libraries listed in the drop down fields lets you navigate within the directory.
The card catalog is a separate service; the directory is for address/staff information only.
3. We're a state government agency, and aren't allowed to use lipstick and rouge; or else the taxpayers start to wonder if we're spending their hard-earned dollars on a couple of hussies rather than a whole bevy of Nurse Ratchett types.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my site and provide feedback.

Good Luck with your endeavors. I'll look at your site when possible.
