Hi - I have just volunteered to update a website and I really don't know much.
Basically, I download the pages, edit them (using Adobe Go Live), then upload them. This has been going off without a hitch for a few months up until last evening. I edited the index page, then uploaded it and all of the graphics and linked pages have disappeared. I don't know enough about web pages to know what happened. Could it be the ftp program I was using? I downloaded a free one from tucows. Any help and or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Define "disppeared". Are they gone from your ftp view of the site, not being shown by the web server or gone from your local disk?

Ok then do you see them with FTP? If so then you uploaded them to the wrong place.

Someone looked at the index page and said that ALL the image and file links are pointing to my own PC computer (ie local site version).
He said what causes this is most likely my software - its creating links to my desktop pc folder which is much different then on the actual web server itself.
He said to check the settings in my software to ensure I am referencing the links 'realtive to the page itself' But I don't know how to change the settings. The software I use is Adobe Go Live.
I had previously downloaded all the image files to my pc. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Should I have left the images file on the website?
thanx

I have never used Go Live but if it's anything like Dreamweaver or Frontpage you should be able to click on (or right click) on the images (in the edit side) and get to the images properties. If you find that you'll see that the picture probably says they link to c://whereever/whereever/image.jpg Get rid of all the garbage in the front referencing your computer and point it to the pics on your site.

That won't fix the setting in GoLive but once you fix all the pics and upload it again it should fix the problem on your site.

That sounds good. I'll give it a try tonight.
thanx for your input.
