Can anyone recommend a good chat room program? I'd like to put one on my commercial site. It would be great if it had a free trial so I could set it up before having to convince management it's worth the cash.

Something easy to use would be a plus, I've never done this. Thanks!

Here's links to a few chat scripts on hotscripts.com:

http://www.hotscripts.com/CFML/Scripts_and_Programs/Chat_Scripts/

http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Chat_Scripts/

If cold fusion and php aren't your thing, then go to the hotscripts main page (www.hotscripts.com) and select a language of your choice. A few clicks and you should be on the chat scripts pages for each language.

Thank you! I'm checking them out now. I had no idea how many there are to choose from.

No problem, you can find lots if you do a google search for "chat scripts". There's alot of cgi chat scripts, if cgi is allowed by management. I know how that is! ;)

I picked one that is supposed to be real simple. Unfortunately it is not simple enough for me. Does this message:
Warning: stat failed for (errno=2 - No such file or directory) in /u/web/gorilla.php3 on line 62

mean anything to anybody? I had a similar one I was able to fix, but this one I can't figure out.

the lines it refers to (the message appears twice) seem to correspond to this: $lines = file($talk_back_ok);

Maybe I should just try another program, but I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

Oh, I won't be able to respond 'til Tuesday, but that doesn't mean I am not grateful!

Sounds like a cgi question. Ask in that forum and I'm sure you'll get meaningful responses. Sorry, cgi is where I cut myself off until I can understand it first.

I got to thinking, what if whey I wanted was more of a forum than a chat room. I don't know how much of a differenct there is, but I found a really good forum here for free: http://www.bravenet.com/. You can get it ad-free for a couple dollars a month.

It is easier than a lot of the chat programs, especially for someone like me who doesn't know much at all about programming.

Thought it might be useful to somebody who might stumble on this thread.....
