about search engines and my page

I am wondering.... I submitted my little webpage to a free search engine submission service and had it submitted to a a few engines for free. However, It told me my submissions were successful, but I'm not sure. I cant find my webpage while doing a search. Does it take a while to get listed? Its been 5 days.

Secondly, what is the best free-submission service out there? is there one? Is there a better way to submit your site? Also, I got a couple emails claiming my meta tags need optimizing..... ithink its bull and they just want to charge me money for a service. Is there any good advice anyone can offer about meta tags and optimizing them......

I know this is a lot to ask about all at one on the same thread, but I am basically wanting a good listing if possible...

Oh yeah, I was thinking of making a site to make a litle money.... but i am wondering.... with the right product is good money possible or has the web been watered down? <---might be a dumb question.

Anyway, if there is a good free submission service, please leave a link for me.

Any advice from the pros would be nice.

You do have to have good meta tags (see http://www.rickbull.co.uk/tutorials/HTML/Getting%20Listed%20on%20Search%20Engines/ for a tutorial I started about it a while ago), but also it does usually take a month or so to start getting listed. You have to remember though that more relevant sites may come up above yours, unless some searches for something specific to your site.

1. get yourself listed with the open directory project. if you are listed there, search engines like google give you higher ranking.

2. try to get other sites to link to your site. this also helps.

3. good meta tags.

4. don't use frames. webcrawlers do not like these.

Thats what i am trying to do too after i get my site fully done but AmericaOnline search enging(TYPO) automaticly adds me to there site when i didn't want to add my site yet ! and if you want your site to be on searches you have to have a meta tag desription of your site etc. or you might not get it on the searches at all .
