windows 2003 serveris the best of course. Followed by windows 2000 advanced server (newest sp of course). Xp pro and 2000 pro may be used as servers but they are not geared for server use, the performance will lack a bit. I run windows 2000 advanced server myself.

As for xp and 2000, they have limited versions of IIS... they have a usage cap because microsoft does not want you running a full scale server from their non server os. You can onyl have 10 connections on a box running iis on xp pro.

I wouldn't call it an opinion thing... unless you want to factor in the cost aspect. w2k3 is the newest and it is geared for server use, it runs much leaner than xp. It is also the only one of those oss that comes with IIS6... which is sexier than IIS5 in some big ways.

It will work. I mean windows 2000 server is not bad at all, it is what I use.

I think if you use any non-server windows OS, then you're limited to 6 concurrent connections in IIS.
