I have no idea who to ask about this (like, on the internet) or if it's posted in the right place, but I hope someone can help me out.

When I'm using my browser online, it keeps going inactive whenever it feels like it. My first assumption was spyware, so I tried clearing off my computer with spyware removal programs, although I don't ever trust that it's gotten everything. My second assumption was that there's some process going on that I don't know about that's kind of... overriding my browser's presence as the main process I'm using. With the help of a search engine, I went through the list of processes being run to see if any were bad or good, etc.

The only things I found that could be suspicious were winlogon.exe, which can be bad if it's not in the System32 folder(?) (although I don't know how to make sure it is); and exec.exe, which could either be a virus, or my NetZero program running. And I'm not sure how to check that one either.

I'm kind of stumped, and I don't know how to make it stop. It's especially irritating when I'm typing (as it's happened several times during this post). Suggestions, knowledgable peoples?

Hi ,
What precisely do you mean by
it keeps going inactive .
Your computer freezes.. the IR freezes.. the screen goes blank/blue/black??
What exactly are the "symptoms" ?
Need more info?

Inactive, meaning the screen suddenly "gets sent to the back". The bar at the top becomes faded and is no longer the active screen. It happens as though I'm opening another program (in front of) the browser, but I'm not opening any programs.

Yes, I think I mentioned that I ran spyware programs. My trial of Spyware Doctor expired a while back, so I ran Ad-Aware and Spybot, but they haven't solved the problem. I also ran Norton Antivirus with updated definitions and it didn't find anything.

For the past couple of days, I've just been researching the processes on my machine and shutting down the useless ones. Sometimes it stops the problem from happening, but I can't exactly figure out why it's happening in the first place.

Hi again Ravasz,
Sounds like you havn't been able to completely "clean" your system of spyware.
If this problem ONLY happens when your online...
It's most likely spyware. Try "Hijack This" program to attempt to find any spyware programs that will misdirect/re-direct your browser program...OR
install a different webbrowser program.. (eg. NetNav, Firefox etc.)
If that doesn't solve your problem.. then.. you can try other commercial ( $$) spyware removal programs (see "downloads/links" page at my website).
If that doesn't solve the problem.. then..
you could have a hardware problem causing the strange behavior. Do basic troubleshooting of COMPLETE hardware system. See the charts at my website for more help. Look especially at any video card or video driver program issues that may be indicated.
If that doesn't solve the problem..then..
post back your complete hardware system specs (ie. which motherboard, video card, CPU,PSU...etc) and ALL modifications you have made to the configurations or connections... and we'll give more help.
Hope this helps :)

PS -IF ANY OF THE ABOVE STEPS DO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.. BE SURE TO POST BACK & LET OTHERS KNOW WHAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM SO EVERYONE CAN BENEFIT.-THANKS
