I may have an opportunity to do some web site work for a non-profit group (not some big, national organization, but small local group without a lot of money to spend). I do not expect it to be a lot of rocket science, and I am not looking to squeeze them for every penny I can get.

I would be interested in hearing what any of you think would be valid prices to charge for the following activities in such a situation:
Setting up the web site on the web host of choice, including password accounts for whoever will need admin privileges on the site.
Each "normal" web page (no special processing required for form inputs). Probably one fee for the first page, then a much smaller fee for additional pages that use the same visual theme (the style sheet from the first can be re-used)
Each form page which sends the submitted form to one or more recipients (such as a Request For Information form or a application to join the association) - this shouldn't be too difficult as I already have a working script I can use with small modifications
Setting up a database to track membership, calendar of events, etc. (price would be dependent on the amount of things to be tracked)
Each form page that interracts with the database
Configuring portions of the site to be "members only" with login/password (this would either be done in conjunction with the membership database above, or else using htaccess if the database option is not pursued)

Ultimately, I'll probably end up doing the work for whatever amount they offer (a close relative is a member), but I'd at least like a reasonable starting point from which to negotiate.

A couple thousand dollars. I would not go under $1,500 (considering they are non-profit).

What you charge is up to you. Work out your costs and then quote accordingly. If you want $50, go for it. If you want $10,000, likewise.

Regards.

If they are a registered non-profit, you have the great benefit of using it as a tax write off! So talk with your tax man, and charge what you want! If you think its $5,000... then charge that, but charge $1,000 from the company, and then just write off $4,000 from your taxes :D

Check with a tax man before doing this, but I am almost positive you can.

The clause would depend on organization in question conforming to the Governments idea of a Non Profit Group. There seems to be an awful lot of them around these days. So definately ge some legal advise on that issue. Good point, though. :)

This is important to remember. There are different levels of "Non-Profit" just as there are different tax brackets. Get with a local tax man to discuss the differences, and how much you can "write off", once you know which tier they fit into.
