Is there a way to retrieve the client computer name using ASP? I have already tried using Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST"), but to no avail. Any other knowledge of how I can achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

Wait wait, how can people get my computer name to use netsend on it? How do they get my name? I disabled netsend but still it gets annoying if its not disabled.

So it can't be retrieved with a cookie?

Hi,
maybe it was done using a Java Applet.

JAVA is not allowed to access the local computer that way.
Hmmm.....don't get me the wrong way here Dave but i don't think the above statement is true and i ain't much of a Java programmer, but i'm almost sure you can do it with Java, maybe not a Java Applet but with a Java servlet you can.
Java has networking capabilities and with in the classes the mechanism to open a socket connection, so i would believe that you would be able to access a PC's name.

wait hold on, they guard a computer name more securly then an ip, thats screwed up. Because with an ip i can send someone a trojan or God knows what else. Unless they are just going area by area and netsending random ip's

I have a good firewall but I dont use it because It affects my latency in online gaming and plus I am on dial up with a dynamic ip so I dont usually worrie about it. But you know what someone today was trying to get my ip on aim... I think so atleast it was a weird little encounter the person was just like hi, hows it going and its a stranger and is like stalling for time and im like ok so I disced and reconnected with a new ip and blocked em, but I think they were trying to send me something, I am pretty sure I know who too... This means I need to get them back. I have some friends who have my back though. I loose my comp the other guys is dead for sure. Well anyways I just thing its kinda dumb for not protecting an ip more like this forum logs them, even though I guess they are neccessary they are way to easy to use for evil instead of good.

Well what I really mean is their has to be a better way of controlling it. I just wish I had a moniter that can tell me when a packet is being sent when it is not supposed to be or something like that, so that way I can disconnect before its finished, trouble is most of these things are so tiny.
