Hello
As part of my college course I am building a simple html forum/Bullitin Board using XML and XSLT
I've got a few Ideas for the user requirements but I'd like to know what other people would like to see as features of a new forum software.
I'm also interested in what you think are the current killer features of existing html buliten board systems.
Thanks for your time

There are few killer features in my opinion on most boards, however I think it is great idea you are writing a board in XML.
I presume the output via XSLT will be either valid HTML or XHTML which would be a "killer feature" since I have yet to see a bulletin board the validates against the W3C recommendations.

Ok i've been a bit busy with other work for the last week but now i'm back on this......
What i've comeup with so far (yes i realise these are the really obvious/basic reqirements:
Functionality
----------------
-Administrator can create “Forums”
-Users can create “Threads”, and make “Posts”
-Threads
-Title, Thread Starter (User), Collection of Posts, Date/Time
-Posts
-Title, Poster (User), Body, Date/Time
-Users
-LoginName, Location, DisplayName, ??User Level (Normal / Mod /Admin)??
Interface
-------------
-simple – quick and easy to understand
-no fancy graphics/flash etc
-Customisable board “identity”
-logos and the like
I too realy like the vbulletin style/interface Out of all of the boards i've used as a 'punter' it's definately my fave
Yes the plan would be to have the XSLT out put valid XHTML or valid HTML (depends how well the XSLT coding goes as to wether i make sure it sticks strictly to the standards)
