I've used Linux on this laptop for a year but I need Windows. This is what I have...

Dell Inspiron 7500
Pentium III 450Mhz
256MB RAM
10GB HD
Linux Xandros OS

I want to put WinXp on here. I also have Win98 if that one won't work. I assume they have IE in them.

How do I do this? I have the Windows CD's. I've already backed up files I need. Do I just put CD in and go or what? Thanks if you can help.

Usually you put the cd in then reboot, and the computer will mount the cd and go through the installation.

Hi Duke Will,
generally its a "best practice" to install Windows OS first ...then install linux.
for more info .. goto the web & search for "dual boot" help..etc
Hope this helps

Windows will run on the laptop easy out of the box. Just install it. However getting linux to run on just about any laptop without flaws is just about impossible out of the box. It can actually be a huge pain in the butt. I have suse and windows running on my laptop side by side, but suse is unstable right now. I might just give up suse and put ubuntu and see if I have better luck with that distro.

After the first post, I spent like two days trying to get Linux going again, installing Linux Mepis. Finally got all of that worked out and it appeared to be real good but it would not recognize my digitarl recorder through USB and I get ticked and chucked all of that and installed Winxp Pro. It's working but there are some squirrelly things that happen that in my opinion, shouldn't happen. It's not flawless like some people have told me, it's done some crazy things. If I could never deal with a computer again, I'd give it up. I have 21 years experience. They are a PITA. I have never tried Mac.

I had a hard time getting my 802.11 working with linux but after some minor 'hacking' it worked. But that is the least of my problems right now. I just have not had a chance to sit down and work with this, I think I am definatly going to drop ubuntu on this laptop though. Linux is much more fun to use than windows though.
