Firstly I'd better have some interactive platform on my site, like a forum, right?

But what content would attract people effectively?People told me to do what Im interested in

but my field is languages research--this attracts very few people,

The site need to be designed to have a good-looking interface and layout but Im too much a

newbie in those designing yet.Is there any way out with something I could create a website

easily, such as...templates? Are templates a good way for me?

Besides SEO, are there other ways to make a site easiler to be found and get more and more

people to visit each day?

Please just give any suggestions you consider useful.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Would it not be possible to use a Object Orientated approach like using Dreamweaver?

i'm sure there are thousands of people in the world interested in languages research. if you get on search engines and have good content i'm sure you will attract traffic from many countries

Post on Slashdot. If you have something interesting, submit it. (provide a coral cache link to your site, though, if you don't have strong servers/loads of bandwidth). If you can link to your website in a comment through a relevant post, do it. That's how I generate about half of my traffic to Security Engine.

Promote

Languages research? What area to do you research? If it's about languages as in French, Indian, Thai, etc., advertise / promote to writers, especially those who write about non-native countries, write spec-fic. Promote to the Conlang community on LiveJournal -- these guys make up their own languages (and can be very geeky / pro about it, too).

Promote to universities, students, language education centres (maybe), research institutes, PhD people, the rest of academia, etc.

If it's about computer languages: you've got me there.

Actual Site

IMO, your content will dictate how you present your work. A few questions off the top of my head:

What impression do you want to give visitors?
How is your research organised?
Will you need to cross-reference through the site?
What do you want your visitors to focus on?
What is the most attractive feature of your research?
Will a search engine make it easier to find documents, etc., in your site? If so, how simple or advanced should the search engine be?
What colourscheme? (beware clashing colours)

I suggest taking a look at similar sites and see how they've set theirs up, then study how your favourite sites are set up.

Hope this helps.
