I am thinking about upgrading my computer. I saw a motherboard that apparently supports several types of memory - DDR400/333/266/200 DDR SDRAM -.

Can I install say a DDR400 and a SDRAM type together on this motherboard or they all have to be the same type?

DDR is a type of SDRAM. That is what they probably meant.

You can mix and match frequencies of ddr though, so ddr pc-3200 (ddr 400), can be mixed with pc-2700, pc-2100, so on and so fourth. What could be an issue though would be mixing sticks with different cas latenices. I had a stick in the primary slot with a cas of 2.5 and a stick in the secondary slot with a cas of 2 and when the system started to use the second stick I would get a bsod... what was happening was a sort of 'memory vacuum' because of the lower latency of the second stick.

If you really want to avoid conflicts like latency issues and even brand incompadbility it is best to just buy two of the exact same stick, or atleast sticks of the same line by the same manufacturor. For example if you have one stick of kingston hyperx get a second, if you have one stick of geil gold gragon get a second... so on and so fourth.

Hi amahmood,
PeOfEo is right re:You can mix and match frequencies of ddr though ...........
and there are often "latency" problems to deal with..some solvable..some not.
Basically your just asking for headaches.
Best advice is always get the EXACT same make & model..etc. from the same manufacturer..if possible.
Hope this helps
