Simple write to .txt or .asp

I know its very simple. I've been trying for about an hour now on Brinkter to write to a .txt file but it gives me random errors (permission denied type things). I do not know anything about ASP and I haven't done much w/ javascript in a year or more but I used to know a little. My client wants a form that writes to a .txt file or a dbase. What is an easy way to do this? It doesn't have to be anything fancy and I would prefer it to be as simple as possible so I can pick it apart and maybe learn something.
Is the reason that none of the scripts I've tried work b/c I am on Brinkster??

Ok, thank you Dave. I knew that I would have to set the permissions and I didn't think that Brinkster.com let you. The host I'm using right now does not allow ASP (they told me it was a security issue which I know is CRAP!). I am getting a new/real host soon and a number 1 priority is ASP. Thank you for the script.
