Registering with search engines

Hi

I'm in the UK and i was wondering if any of you could help me with some advice.

I have to register a site with search engines and I was wondering (without having to fork out loads of money to one of these companyies which does it for you) what recommendations you might have.

I was wondering if there's any freeware I could download to help me do this.

and also which search engines are the best / quickest / easiet to register with.

I would be grateful for you help,

Some web hosting sites will automatically submit your domain to the top ten search engines for free. There are numerous sites that will do it for you free of charge. Just google for the keyword submitit.
