Hi !!!!
I'm not looking for a script or help on a script... not yet :)
I'm planning to do a memo system, I suddenly came up with the idea, and thought it could be usefull.
I'm a writer, and I often get ideas at work, or whereever, but I know myself, and if I write the ideas on a piece of paper, I always end up losing them.
I'd like to have a form where I can write my ideas. Basic, really basic.
It would be like a guestbook script.
The only thing which is going to be different is the sorting of the entries.
I'd like to be able to sort the entries in different ways, like :
the date
the characters involved
whether it's just random ideas or already a nice dialogue
the part of the story I'm talking about...
So, I just need to know how to get my sql datas back, that's all !!! :)
Those of you who know LiveJournal, it's very similar to that tagging system they just implemented.
I don't want to use LiveJournal, because I want to be able to backup my database rather often.
Any advice would be really nice !
I'll try to do this one by myself if I can, as I've already asked you sooo much for my scripts...
( but expect me to come back rather quickly with a stupid syntax mistake, as usual... :) )
Thanks !!!

When I get time I'll make you one. My PHP programming skills are quite horrible but I can surely make it flawless in PERL. I'll message you when it's done. Might take me a few days to find time around my employers -- so be patient.

Ulti !!!!!!
In my arms !!!!!! :)
Actually, I can make one, it's fine... I have done all the php coding on my site, except the blogging system, which is Pyro's famous XBlogLite script.
It's just... I'm not sure how to retrieve the files. It's not really like I have to retrieve them, but...
I'm sure it's a piece of cake, I just have to investigate a bit to know how to sort stuff with mutliple variables...
So, have you seen my site lately ?
It's almost completed !!!
Do you have an idea about a good way to show pictures ? Like a gallery or something similar ? I have plenty of ideas, but I don't really know which could go well with my designs.
Oh, and do you happen to have any flash/actionscript skills ?
( I'm not to this point yet, but I might soon be posting something in the flash subforum... )
Thanks for proposing to help me, but I think I'll try it on my own, this time. I'll PM you if I'm stuck on something.
BTW, your forum is growing quickly !!!! :)
Edit : oh, and my server doesn't support PERL... :(

How's it going, Ness? Nice to hear you almost completed it!
Server doesn't support PERL! That's too bad...
Yes my forums seem to be growing rapidly and I don't even advertise -- people just find it in searchs and hear about it from other members. The best galleries are when you use tumbnails, click to enlarge, that are sortable by file size, creation date, name, etc. Also a voting feature is always cool for you to vote on and also a place to add comments about the graphics.
I doubt you wanna do all this though but they are ideas.
Would you mind sharing your code with us when it's all done?

In the first place, it was meant for being shared, of course !!! :)
I wanted to do something with thumbnails that you enlarge, for the gallery, but I also thought about doing something not very different from the windows image preview, when you're on photo mode ( or whatever it's called in English, where you see the thumbnails, you click on them and get the big size image on the same page. ).
Do you think it's doable without js and frames ?
I'm going to create the categories, so I don't need sorting. And the pictures are there for fun only, most of them are ugly drawings I did, so I'd rather avoid the voting system... lol !!!
But thanks for the ideas, I might use it later on my homepage ( i'm planning to redesign it some day, and have it in English instead of French ).
Yeah, it's not cool that my host doesn't support Perl, but still, it does support php...
Last year, I had to choose between learning perl and learning php, and I more or less decided for php, as it's more web oriented.
But I'm really a newbie, still. Although I can understand the scripts, now !!! that's a big improvment, because at first, I didn't understand anything...
I can even invent new things... I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, but if I share it, I assume I can post it here, and we can all have a lot at it and try to make it better.
I have absolutely no ambition of copyrighting it or selling it anyway.
I mostly decided to design that script for myself and my friends, who are also writers.
I discussed that with one of my friends, and that's when she told me about LiveJournal and the tagging system.
But she was also very interested in having her own memo system ; relying on something like LJ is not always the best solution, because you cannot really back-up your entries... and... most of all, I hate using other people's thing, most of all when they are as commercial as LJ is.
Next thing, I'm doing my own news system, but that will be a pain, for sure.
For now, i like using XBlogLite a lot, because it suits my purposes exactly, and it's not a big company product.
I like to support small, independant companies.
And so, all this blabla was to say, when I realease the code, anybody should feel free to use it and improve it.

I'm eager to see it, then !!!
It'll probably be thousand times better than mine. Even the logo rules !!! :)

That is a pretty killer logo if I do say so myself :D
I had an idea Ness... have you ever seen the image viewer thingee for Mac? It rocks, it's all fluid and what-not it kinda bounces out at you etc... just a wild idea for a gallery except you would naturally have to do it in Flash of course.

except I don't know a single thing about flash !!! lol !!!
I just want to do something that has the "feeling" of my website...
I have some ideas, but I'm in no hurry to show my ugly drawings... ;)
If you know flash, then maybe you can help me do my crazy OS-like interface... ( I posted in the Graphic subforum... )
I might be able to do some of it, but I'm really awkward in Flash.
Last year, I had fun with it and did something for a website ( which is now deserted... so ugly, and so... horrible... yeah... anyway... I'll redo it one day... it's like, a single page is online. It was something meant to be ugly and ridiculous, but I'm going to work at it when I'm finished with all my projects..,
Don't care about the website, but take a look at the flash intro, it's funny :
http://lerepairedufrat.free.fr
I'll translate it for you :
The Evil Duck Website
( one-unequal-length-legged <-- the duck, not the website ) // this actually means nothing in French either, but it's more fluid
Miss the wonderful intro that rocks ( too bad... )
He is mean...
He is blood-thirsty
he is 2 m 30 tall
He eats five times his weight in human meat EACH DAY
The Evil Duck...
Is back !!!
yeah, some kind of an experiment with my best-friend... ;)
anyway, that has nothing to do with the topic... lol !
But you see, i can do only basic things in Flash.

So, after thinking a bit, I have a question.
I'm surely going to make a database, and I was thinking of calling one table item : tags. ( no, i'm not asking you if you like the name... :D )
The question is about this specific field :
Can it handle several parameters ?
I'll try to be more precise.
Let's say, I write a memo about the weather and my plastic ballon ( yeah, I really have interesting things to say )
I want to be able to retrieve my entry if I search for "weather", or if I search for "plastic ballon".
but still, I don't want to restrict the tag entry to one word, because I expect some of my entries to have at least 4 or 5 tags.
What would be nice too, is too have a list of all the tags, with the number of entries related...
Yeah, and in a perfect world, one could also edit the entries, add comments to them, and I would own LiveJournal and be rich. :p
I said in my first post that I would try to do it alone.
After putting on paper all that had to be done, I guess I'll still need some help... ;)

LMAO == Laughing My A$$ Off
All those things are feasble. And not terribly complex. No worries :D
