I did until about two weeks ago, when I switched to HTML Builder XP because I thought it had tabbed, built-in IE and Firefox previews. Turns out only the former actually WORKS, so I'm looking for a new one too... I think I may just revert to Notepad! :) thedigitalnomad 08-08-2005, 03:08 AM Wow, nobody uses Notepad anymore? Turns out only the former actually WORKS, so I'm looking for a new one too... I think I may just revert to Notepad! :) Notepad is my weapon of choice--I was just noting that there were a lot of free alternatives out there, instead of just listing one. Some people like a choice :) Yeroon 08-08-2005, 06:16 AM i use html-kit. mtllcrckmn 08-08-2005, 06:43 AM yea i used to use html kit, but now ive moved on to a free notepad editor specifically designed for web building: http://www.download.com/Notepad-/3000-2352_4-10417678.html?tag=pdp_prod i would definatly reccommend it Kravvitz 08-08-2005, 01:23 PM Syn Text Editor is great for me and has built-in ftp as well. http://syn.sourceforge.net/ I use Syn Text Editor as well, though I don't use the FTP functionality. I also recommend the editors in the first section of this page (not the "graphical web page generators" (WYSIWYG) ones listed near the end of the page) (http://css-discuss.incutio.com/?page=CssEditors) anroy 08-09-2005, 11:38 PM I have used the Maruo editor for many years with much satisfaction. The English version has all the menus and dialogs in English. Here is the download page. It is in Japanese. http://hide.maruo.co.jp/software/hidemaru.html Here is the link to directly download the installer of the English version, which allows you to bypass Japanese. http://hide.maruo.co.jp/software/bin/maruo501_signed.exe MarkGG 08-10-2005, 02:55 PM I am in the middle of designing a massive series of asp webpages (over 80 individual pages in total) for corporation use, all made with the leetness of notepad.exe Kravvitz 08-10-2005, 03:05 PM How is notepad more leet? Which version of notepad? WinXP's version? Win9x's? Quill96 08-10-2005, 06:15 PM Ive never used any editor other thatn notepad. Notepad Rocks!! maybe I'll try one of those though. Stephen Philbin 08-10-2005, 08:50 PM Hand coding in Notepad is pointless. As soon as I found out there were proper programs for coding, I switched straight away. Then when I upgraded from XP to an operating stystem (and so lost access to Notepad), I found that even the Notepad equivelant had basics such as line counting, parenthesis match tracking, file tabbing and many other things an experienced developer would expect. Still not what you'd expect of a full fledged editing tool, but still rather suprising. Personally I use JEdit (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A//www.jedit.org/&ei=Ba76QtzxNMjuRbaN8I0O) it doesn't have FTP features, but it's rare that I need them and if ever I find myself on an alien OS, I can still use a familiar editor. :D webdeveloper.com
