First of all...I am by no means a webmaster. I created this site after I spent a lot of money going to school to become an MCSE 2000 and couldn't find a job so I created one. I now do computer repairs and small networking work around the area and am very interested in feedback on the site.

I am an affiliate marketer so some links will go directly to their site with my logo. I am looking for constructive critism for my site and any other information you can provide.

I am a very inquisitive person and look to broaden my web design skills over the next several months. Any advice in that area would be helpful as well. Useful books to read, sites to look at, etc...

I understand that tables are a no no and css is the way to go, but I have no clue even where to begin that journey. I created the site in netscape composer and am looking to get some other design software. Any ideas?

If posting info would take too much time...feel free to email me.

Thanks,
weapher

The best website creator in my opinion is Dreamweaver MX 2004. If you want, you can get the most recent one but then you would have to pay more.

I think your site is pretty good. What really caught my eye was the color scheme. What you could do to improve it is center the logo and put the 'Free Tech Help and Other' on the side because right now, it looks like the logo is there just for the sake of being there and kind of squished in. You know what I mean?

I'm not exactly a good webdeveloper so there is my tiny bit of useless help!

I think for any major improvements to the design you'd probably have to start from scratch, simply because there's to much poor code you'd have to wade your way through.

Things you'll want to watch out for in a re-design are
making the page re-size-able, it currently just cuts bits off.
avoiding defaults like blue underlined links, they just look amature and hardly show off any skills.
using a sensible structure, remembering that Google is blind, the first bit of content it'll get is your navigation so it wont consider the page very interesting.

It's best to be coding by hand and avoiding all WYSIWYG as it just bulks up your code and can make your page less accessable. You should be capable of using notepad but to make things easier for yourself HTML Kit (http://chami.com) has some useful features (and is free).

thanks for the tips. :) it all helps. Since I tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist I want to do my best to get it right.

As far as the "poor code"...what are my options? Just sit down and hand type all of my html. I thought that wysiwyg was supposed to be an efficient and good way to build a page.

I guess I am not too clear as to the way to build a good site. I can not imagine webmasters typing out all of that code. (my fingers and wrists hurt just thinking about it) Help me see the big picture.

Thanks again for your input.

ps...any good books I should look for to help. I get into the websites for info, but am away from my computer a lot and would appreciate reading through a book or two...or three.
