Kinda harsh in here...
So all you "hard coders"... di you teach yourselves or go to school? If self taught how long?
Do any professionals use WYSIWYG programs or are they all "hard coders"?
Thanks for the input
Well, I consider myself a hard-coder... I don't use any WYSIWYG editors. I'm self-taught, and everything I know I started learning May of last year. I'd probably know Perl and CGI (I only know a little) right now, but I don't have money to take classes. If I did... Man, I'd know a lot more than I do now... And that's a lot. :)

Did you teach yourself from readin books or just from tooling around and experimenting?
I'm blown away by the fact that people can produce anything by code... I'll be even more blown away when I can.
I learned all of it without a book at all. Except for recently I got an advanced Javascript book, but I already knew most of that by the time I got it.

I mainly used a combination of looking at other sites' code, and online tutorials. Books are often quite useful, but by no means necessary, as the references are all available online.
When I was just starting, I found this JS tutorial which I think is quite good:
http://www.javascriptmall.com/learn/
Now I'm familiar with most of it, and I simply use the DevEdge Netscape reference:

Good luck!

I put up a website a little over a year ago. I took a couple classes, but out of that I use very little. How I code in a class and how I code in real life is quite different. Books have been a help for no other reason than using then for a reference looking up stuff. There has been a number of stuff I have learned via the web and message boards. The biggest thing that has helped is just playing around with code and seeing what you can actually do with it.

As a person who doesn't use WYSIWYG programs, I want to say they can be good, but only in the hands of a person who knows what they are doing. A newbie is best served staying far away from those programs until later.

and... since i am somewhat offended by the "jeez" tone that you chose for this particular thread (talk about "harsh")...
I replied to your other thread in greater detail to better explain myself.

It never ceases to amaze me how the people who hard-code are called egotistical and harsh... yet the WYSIWYG people are always pooh-poohing the actual skill that is required to be a web developer in the first place.... and they think that it is not offensive to those of us who posses those skills and utilize them professionally.
Read the link. Then tell me if you still think that a WYSIWYG user can do the job of a professional.
