Howdy all,
I've been dinking around with this for a couple of weeks in the evenings. Its basically a homebrew (beer) log that I nerded up a bit. I'm psyched because this is all something I just thought up and coded in PHP and MySQL.
HTML and CSS both validate and I've checked it on Mac Firefox and IE and PCIE. There are some strange text things going on with PCIE and Mac IE just sucks. But, I'm fairly happy with how it has turned out so far.
What do you all think?
EDIT - I guess a link would help

Really? No one will comment??
dang, I thought it was a pretty good little site. :p
HA, HA - Cool site. Loving the graphics!
My dad just retired after working as a Master Distiller for 35+ years. The recording of your trials and errors is hilarious!
The only thing I might change would be the right side navigation. It's a bit squished vertically. Maybe more padding between.
Nice work!

HEY!!! Thanks for the reply.
I was beginning to think no one cared :(

Do you mean the links? Yeah I know, that was kind of thrown together. I had intended to put a lot of info and stuff there in the sidebar, but haven't quite gotten around to it.
I see from your sig that you're viewing in IE, is that PCIE? If so, maybe you can help me out with some troubleshooting. When I view this on PCIE at work I notice that on the batch pages the text seems to go away on my <h>s. Its there in the source and I can't figure out what's causing it. Ever seen anything like this.
Glad you like it! This little project has been fun, the brewing too . . .
Yeah, I meant the Links section in the gray box. It's a little tight.
You're right: the headings are gone onload, but then appear when I scroll up, but then disappear after a couple of seconds. I notice that if I highlight the area, the text appears, too.
It may have to do with these headings having <dl> and <dt> tags, and associated line-height issues as well as the alignment with the image. I'm really not sure; just guessing based on experience. You might try changing these to a <h1> and <h2> tags and see if that helps.

Is the select a page thing going to be your archives? If so, you willl want to rethink that. Archiving by a type of beer(ale, stout, etc.) or by date would be many times better.
EDIT: And don't put the archives at the bottom. You have plenty of room on the right side.

Hi Spufi, the "page thing" is the archives, yes. It currently only has one page of batches as I've only brewed 3 times. There is a limit in the query that will do 10 per page before generating the links to subsequent pages. And they are ordered by date, in a sequential order descending from the most recent. The idea of sorting by type might be a good idea, assuming I do the same type more than once. I probably will start to do repeat recipes, but as yet I'm still experimenting with different types of beer. Moving it over to the right side panel might be a good idea, but I intend to use that for other stuff in the future.
Thanks for the compliments Lilcrazy and sajjad!
I've got a little beer making kit the family got me for christmas & your site makes me want to go get it out & start brewing!
I liked the fun layout & the lighter colors make it upbeat.

Nice site, theres not much there so thats less to worry about when updating, ya know forgetting to add something. I want to try some of the chocolate mint stuff. Color scheme is good. I like how you have the mail form on your page, I hate it when people use a mailto link. That is my #1 pet peeve

Hi Shawn, Its all stored in a MySQL db that I just enter in the info for each batch. I've got an admin section that I'm working on, but isn't ready to go live. So far I'm entering everything into phpmyadmin. But, as we brew more the site will have more data in it.
As I've worked on this I continually notice things that need to be done differently so check back for more changes/updates.
I think I've straightened out the PCIE weirdness and its the same across the board now on PC's and Mac (except for Mac IE, but who's still using that?). Don't worry, I don't care for the Yankess, but I will be staying very close to a Mac for the forseeable future.
Thanks to the others for the positive comments!!
