I hope someone can help me!
I am creating a web site to sell intellectual property, a series of manuals created for those in service industries. I would like to set it up in a way so that after someone pays for a manual, they are automatically directed to a page where they can download it to their computer. The problem that I am having is that we will have a series of vendors who will also sell these manuals along with their products. But they would be able to pay for only one, and be able to print off a hundred if they like once it is on their computer. Obviously this would infringe on copyright rules but what can you do? We had thought that each manual could have it's own numerical code, and that (somehow magically) every time one was purchased, the next one bought would have the next number up. That way we could find out who was copying them for resale by visiting their location and physically checking if we wanted. But then if someone wanted to buy, say twenty, I don't want for them to have to enter all their information over and over again into the paypal section. Does anyone have any ideas of what can be done? (short of printing and packaging them ourselves?)
Also, if someone wanted to set up their own web site to resell our manuals at a marked up price, how can that be done so that the purchases still go through us, and how can we track how many of the manuals sold came through their site?
This is turning out to be a lot more complicated than I had originally thought it would be.
