To PSP or not to UMD???

I'm considering buying a Sony PSP but am concerned about the UMD movie format and its availability.

I have a couple of questions:

Anyone had any experience of the PSP or an equivalent?

Is PSP all its cracked up to be?

Can you convert Videos ie (Cassettes) and DVDs ie (DVD) into UMD format?

I've only played one game on the PSP (The Japanese version of "Everybody's Golf") which is one of my favourite games, so naturally I loved it. As for any other software, I dunno. I can't imagine it'll be long before all kinds of things are done with the "UMD" though. It is afterall, just an old Mini Disc with a silly shaped plastic casing.

So UMD isnt MP4 (which I understand is mp3 for movies?)

Anyone any ideas on my other questions or know any good forums that specialise in this stuff?

The disc can hold whatever data you like in whatever format you like.
