I am trying to get my old computer back to work but I can't. To narrow down the problem I discounnected every thing and left only the mother board and processor and the memory. When I connect the power and turn the computer on I can hear the processors fan and nothing else. the screen remains completely black.
What could be the problem?

Try taking the battery off the motherboard for a few seconds, put it back and try it up. You might have a CMOS issue. Removing the battery will clear it and put it back to default.

Do you hear any beeps after the comp is turned on? If you don't, the clearing the CMOS is the way to go. If that doesn't work, your motherboard is probably fried.

Well,
I removed the battery for a few minutes and turned on the computer again, still no beep, Does this mean that the motherboard is out?

possibly. I would try the processor, ram, and video (if it is not onboard) on another system that they would be compatible with, or drop a processor and ram that are compatible on the supposedly fried motherboard.

You might not have an internal speaker, so make sure your external speakers are attatched to the comp.

Most Desktops have a internal speaker
Most Laptops don't.
Try 2 borrow a PCI boot Card
