I went to the old HTML Goodies forums back when I was just just just starting out. I didn't like it, so I didn't go back for awhile. Later on I had a question that I couldn't find an answer to, and I remembered the HTML Goodies forum. I clicked on the link and it brought me here. I was like, oh, new forum, mmkay, and signed up.

After starting out on HTMLGoodies and learning how not to build pages and sites, I heard of this 'ere better way of doing it. Semantics, code seperation, standards and so on. I thought it'd be a good idea to find a way to surround myself with web developers to learn how things worked, the do's and don'ts, and so on. At first I clicked the forum that was linked to from HTMLGoodies, but just as this place loaded, I figured this place would be no good because it'd probably be full of people that were doing things the bad old way too. So I went over to Google and had a look for web developer forums. This place came top of the listings so I tried some other search terms, this place still came top again. So I figured screw it, I'll give it a try if it keeps coming out on top. So I signed up and asked a question. Vladdy did his usual trick of being an arse and just putting people right off, and I thought, well screw this place if it's full of arse holes like that, and left.

After a few months I came back anyway, because everywhere else was just full of clueless goomers and I stayed ever since.

I was looking for something and I stumbled upon HTML Goodies. And I was deeply and profoundly appalled at the ignorance on display at the site. Back then the site had a forum attached. I remember it was quite the joke. The forum for the HTML how to site was so poorly written that the mark up had two HEAD elements. They were including the forum into a template and they weren't smart enough to look at the result. Anyway, that forum migrated into this one in November of 2002 and here I am.

u=33 is a query string in the link to the profile page. If the user id feild in the db is just an incrimenting feild then you would be the 33rd to have joined. That would make me the 36th

Weird, when you sort by Join date, Charles is member #9:
http://webdeveloper.com/forum/memberlist.php?do=getall&page=1&ltr=&pp=30&order=asc&postslower=0&postsupper=0&sort=joindate
It jumps like so:
1,2,3,4,6,7,8,10,33

What's even more interesting is the member:
http://webdeveloper.com/forum/member.php?u=32
"gil davis" that joined on 11-20-2002 should appear before charles because he's member 32 while Charles is number 33...

edit:

It seems that everyone that joined on the same day are orginiazed by their name instead of by join date when you sort by joined date.

Sorry mate, but the Domain Names forum isn't very busy, and your question really didn't have to do with domain names, but with a computer issue. The key to a useful discussion in any forum is posting in the appropriate place. Say I'm a computer technician, especially knowledgeable with firewalls. Will I neccessarily be browsing the domain name forum? It's about visibility, and I know that if people can see your posts, it's very rare here for them not to get answered. Very rare for a post to go a whole day without a first response.

I'll keep that in mind...almost a year has passed and I've learned a few things...but when you're just starting out your dependance on others answering your questions doesn't lend itself to patience...now I can solve or figure out most minor problems myself...so I'm not as dependant on people answering my posts.

There's nothing wrong with using frames. The technology exists for a reason. They're perfectly legitimate.

Mr Initial Man
08-29-2005, 01:46 PM
Actually, I'll be using them in an HTML tutorial I'm writing, on a page about presentation. On one side, will be an HTML document with styling, the other side will be the same document, except that the styling is removed. It will be shown in frames, so people can see a comparison.
