couple site reviews needed. neither one of these are complete.. they are CMS and hardly any of the content has been added and alot of the functionality is still missing. i'm sure there will look alot different when they are completed but for now i have the basic templets set up. just wanted soem opinions on them. they arent yet debugged for IE but work in firefox so i suggest using them (you should be using firefox anyway :p

www.houstonbalfour.com
www.southtexasbalfour.com

also for the same company but much closer to being finished is www.balfournow.com. notice how the color shceme changes when picking the schools ;) i kinda like that part

thanks for yer time

For www.houstonbalfour.com, the links at the top disappear when I hover over them. Maybe you should think about changing the hover color so it doesn't disappear because it gets kind of annoying, you know what I mean?

For www.southtexasbalfour.com, I think you should center the stuff because I am getting a lot of black on the right.

yeah i agree with both of the comments. the link hover color has not yet been set in the first one.. its not gonna remain that color that is for sure. and i think i intended the second one to be centered like you suggested. that is quite a bit of black.. thanks for the comments

its cool if you dont like them but "EWWWWWW" can mean many different things.. i'm assuming it means "yucky, i hate peas!!!" but it could mean "EWWWW thats cool! i really like peas for dinner!" just curious

I think the first one is to tightly formatted... Most people have gone past having the web at 640x480 and those few who are stuck at that size HAVE got to come to terms that the internet is horrable at that screen size.

Go ahead and reformat it for 800x600 (740pixels wide) and see what happens...

The second one I'm sorry to say I don't like nearly as much as the first site, based solely on the fact the image on the right looks way to faded and the whole design as a whole is not bad but the colors need to be reconsidered, because as I was looking at the page there was little to nothing to grab my eye.

Again the design isn't the issue... it's more the colors and washed out image on the right.

About the post by Mitsu03, I removed it as the post said nothing and at this rate this member won't be with us long.

you are right about the second one. even though my client has already chosen to go with the design, i believe i will go back and work on that photo myself and try and sharpen it up. its is quite washed out. and i'm slowley starting to realize that i make all of my designs way to narrow. i personally like narrow designs for some reason but i'm increasingly running into clients who, after approving a design mockup, later when the site is live say "i didnt realize it would be so narrow, whats all that space on the sides for?" anyway.. much appreciated.

You are expecting people to make online payments, but your site isn't SSL/TSL secure.

the ssl has not yet been implemented. it most definetly WILL be secure when its finished.

I understand the trials that come with developing a fixed design website...

I've run into a number of the people your talking about... My responce to them is this...

Well give me enough content to fill the space and we can talk. However this layout is what works best for a site with very little to say. (I do say it nicer than that but I think you get the idea.)

I think there is something to the idea of saying as little as possible but at the same time is it enough to get the job done?

All,
I am a new user. Nice to meet you.
I took a look at your houstonbalfour and southernbalfour websites. Nice job with the homepage setup graphic and link arrangement. I agree with the others as to the hover link change. If link disappears it is disturbing. Nice job with tabling your forms in the account and signup areas. Only one, password and reenter password were not in alignment. Nice job with form validation. But when I pressed register with no form entry, it flashed sql errors at me briefly then the form came back but I could see half the sql error on the right side of the screen. So I guess resizing is in order. Overall good job.

it occurs to me that i should maybe appologize for prematurly posting these sites when they are in such an infancy stage. i was mainly looking for design crits but i realize its very distracting to look at such an incomplete website and still try and make a critique. i'll repost when they are finished. as far as WHEN they will be complete, i'm not sure. i'm not the only one working on them. we have a developer doing all the backend work, and another person doing content and product entry. my part in them is for the most part finished untill we start debuggig.. (i did the design adn layout and basic html/css) anywhoo.. thanks for all the reviews.

Hi -
First site: Your page is broken up using my screen/browser settings. The navigation is pushed out of the container. You might check up on that.

Second site: You should consider using relative values for width/heights rather than absolute. There's a whole lot of blank space around your page. Also, the design for this site is too busy. I like the simplicity of the first better.

Good Luck -
