I remember reading somewhere that if you put an * in the input name of a particular form, it was a required action for the user to complete. I can't find the site I looked at, but I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this, and if you could direct me to some more information??

no that is not true,
an asterisk next to a field is used by a developer and then there is underlying code that actually makes that field a required field.
