Car Make/Model database required for website

hi, i am developing a car related website in asp/sql and require a database of all car makes and models for the UK, same thing you see on insurance company online quote sites, car parts sites etc.

know anywhere i can download one from? .xls, .csv file etc.

any help appreciated, dont fancy inputing the data myself :eek:

Most insurance cos get the information from Experian, they hold the national registration database and offer a vehicle reg look up facility .. chargeable of course

I will not warranty it to be comrehensive as I beleive it was current as of 2008 so might be missing some newer or some very old models, was useful for my vehicle sites.

Ferret- Does your list include a breakdown of vehicles and makes by year?

I have a number of feeds. The consolidated list of manufacturer, model and derivative has 6,180 records but I have excluded date related data to avoid duplication. (This shortened list excludes details of tyre size and VIN numbers)

I do however has feeds for make, model, derivative manufactured by year from 2001 - 2007. The source has been culled from my fleet emissions database hence it contains some date information, for example the data in 2006 vehicle list contains the following entries for the Vauxhall Vectra (partial set displayed else message is too long to post):

Some manufacturer data has no year ref and some just refer to 'New' models, for example from the data for 2000 (prob not so New now!):

VOLKSWAGEN New Polo Hatch 3 & 5 Door E 1.0 50 bhp
VOLKSWAGEN New Polo Hatch 3 & 5 Door E 1.4 60 bhp

In total 13,323 entries but I am sure that if you take all of the data then there will be an amount of de-duplicating needed.

Happy to help with coding in return for a copy of your data (useful to compare to mine and check to see it is comprehensive). What are you looking for, quick and dirty php/mysql where selecting a vehicle make from dropdown reloads the page to select model or something a little more elegant maybe AJAX call to dynamically populate the model when the make selection changes?
