hi everyone,

latly i been having some really annoying problems with my XP Pro, it takes ages to get to desktop as it mainly struck on the welcome screen (running on AMD 1.7 & 1 G DDR RAM). i have tried many ways to fix the problem

* Formatted the computer atleast 3-4 times, worked fine for a month but problems comes back.

* reinstalled with different CD, same thing occurs after a month

* check cable, power, pins

i'm not too sure about this as i think it's the system32/drivers as when i try to get into safe mode a bunch of errors turned up with
system32/driver/*^#%$ error. (sorry can't remember the errors right now).

When i get into safe mode everything is fine, while back in normal if i manage to get in after 10 min of sitting in front of a screen looking at welcome, everything is SLOW!! it took me 1 min for my computer to turn up. ALSO! everything is restarted e.g broadband internet connection is gone, etc, another thing is that i have USB mouse, keyboard, Printer, flash drive, USB to IDE. is that the main problem? somepeople told me it's my harddrive, i have a 200G Seagate with 40G on C:/ and 160 on D:/ could that be the problem?

can someone PLZ help me?

It could possibly be a HD issue. My GF has the same problem, only sometimes it just never moves past the welcome screen... I'm apt to think it's the HD going bad.

but i can't be, i mean i'm very careful with where i go and stuff, mostly i just research and do hw. Also i got zonealarm, registry fix 3, i defrag every month. i mean i have some kind of spyware or virus i would notice it right away. it's about the system32/driver section i'm worried about.

I had a problem when I was trying out Windows Vista, every time it booted up it took longer and longer and then I started to get a ton of errors and then it eventually never booted up at all. I looked at the hard drive and it had a hole in it, I must have bashed it when I was sliding it in because it ripped part of the cover off at the corner.

It's possible that it's a problem with your hard drive itself, I'd suggest taking it out and then having a very careful look at it to make sure that it's all sealed up and air tight still. If it does look like it's damaged then if it's still under warrenty get a new one.

It sounds like you may have some bad sectors on the HD, take a trip to http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/ there is a tool that can be downloaded to check the discs integrity, either way you'll know.
