Are meta tags still an important part of html?

What is a good way to hide my meta tags from visitors?

If you're talking about search engine ranking, they are not very important any more. (Due to there being so much abuse of them, the major search engines do not put much/any stock in them any more.)

I know of no way to hide them: they're part of the HMTL page which gets sent to the user's machine. Any user who actually cares what's in your meta tags and knows anything about how to use their computer will be able to read your source code.
