I just took over as webmaster of a web page and am having problems getting my Form to work. The site was built and maintained using FrontPage but I am using Dreamweaver to update and maintain it now. I have almost zero knowledge of server side operations and am pretty new to the web design area. Here is my problem...
I created a form in Dreamweaver with dropdown boxes, text fields, check boxes, ect and need the information provided by the visitor to be appended into an HTML file on the server and then have the browser window open a new page after submition. I read that Dreamveaver requires you to provide your own script to process the form. Where do get this script? Where exactly do I put this script once I get it? How do I know if the hosting server supports the script?
When I built a form using FrontPage with the Form Wizard, I didnt have to worry about any script and I am not sure how to go about using one. However it has been a problem lately with the server "loosing" the FrontPage extentions and having to keep getting them to reinstall them. This is why I had hoped Dreamweaver would make things easier by not having to constantly have to get the FrontPage extentions installed to use Frontpage. Does Dreamweaver have any extentions that have to be installed on the server to use it? Any help that anyone can provide would be great. I am trying to learn as I go but many things are not explained in very simple terms so I keep getting stuck. Anyone have any ideas? I'm getting desprate and can't figure this out. I have tried to look up info on scripts but can only find things about scripts that e-mails the results and not one that apends to a file. I have no use for the e-mail script as I need the data apended to a file stored on the server that a number of people need to access. Thank you for your time.
