High security password protection

I am working on a site that will have a directory of names, phone #'s and e-mail addresses of children 11 and older. I need to find out the best way to do this to make it as secure as I can...how secure will it be if I use the web hosting password protection area?

Most secure possible would be 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). You'll probably want to contact your webhost for more information on how to set it up.

What you probably have to think about, though is who is going to have the passwords - if it is a big company, it could be very easy to phone up and get the passwords from the staff, Perhaps you need to consider physical security.

i am really sorry but i think this is sick. Under no circumstances should you or anyone display under age minors email and telephone numbers on a web site regardless of the security types in place. Your reasons behind this maybe genuine and all in good faith, but come on think about this one, displaying telephone numbers of under age children on the internet.

Dave Clark can you please look into this post. I feel as a parent this is not acceptable and i don't care if its for a very genuine reason a would be very angry if my childs name, email address and telephone number was on a web site.

Under new US legislation, if based in the US you can't collect and hold that sort of info about children under 13. Only their name. However, my opinion depends on the organization. If it is a scout movement, school, course etc. which need mobile storage of data, then it would in my opinion be acceptible with the childs parents consent.

I agree with cijori it is not possible without breaking the law.

Also [SWR]Ribeyed is correct it is a bit sick of what the information could be used for if all this info was publicly available.

I guess this post is a 'victim' of not enough information about the scope and need of the site. Since there is no mention of if this is an opt-in list or if you plan on mining this data from another source.

However I know there are to many 11 year olds and beyond that don't know any better and would fill in such info.

Sadly kids still get into cars with strangers on the lure of candy.

I can only hope that wsmith is trying to get people upset by asking how to get such infomation.
